How weight loss could affect the NFL and the Olympics
By RYAN FLECHER Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) The NFL is considering taking a more hands-on approach with weight loss for its players.
In a memo released Tuesday, NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith says the league is working with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to develop a plan for NFL players to lose weight while still playing.
Smith says an NFL-wide initiative is underway to track players’ health, and that players should be encouraged to use the opportunity to be more active.
The NFLPA says its members are also working to find ways to help the NFL players who are trying to lose their weight get healthier.
Smith says the NFL is committed to its players and to its fans and is focused on helping them keep their bodies in good shape.
